Neighborhood Design Presentations
The Neighborhood Design Center offers a range of engaging, visual presentations about topics related to sustainable neighborhood design. Presentations can be prepared for residents, government officials, the development community, businesses and civic associations. Examples include:
Principles of Neighborhood Design - An introductory presentation covering: people and homes; streets and blocks; public spaces and gathering places; green building and development; public processes, codes and guidelines.
Designing Sustainable Neighborhoods - Applies the system conditions of The Natural Step to the design of sustainable neighborhoods.
Great Neighborhood Book
Great Neighborhoods: How to Bring them Home (2006) portrays, in common language and pictures, how compact, diverse, pedestrian and transit-friendly neighborhoods enhance community for all members and are better for the environment. 1000 Friends of Wisconsin and the Dane County Better Urban Infill Development (BUILD) Program/Great Neighborhood Initiative developed the book with funding from Madison Gas & Electric and the Madison Community Foundation.
